Hi there! Is this pattern identical to the six-repeat version in the Ichida II book? Can I just add two more repeats to make it circular? Thanks!

Hi,
My first instinct was to say “no”, fearing that it would pucker too much, but:
1) the too much puckering would make it great for a Manifold Cardigan, and
2) the difference between Frosted Ferns and Eichenlaub is that one is six repeats, the other is eight repeats; the trick in preventing Eichenlaub from puckering is at the very first few rounds. So, will compare the two patterns and do a post on the topic. Thanks for your question.

Thanks! I’d love to do this one as a shawl. It won’t hurt to first knit the 4-petal version as a test to become familiar with the pattern, so I’ll start with that.

In fact the Ichida version is different; one example is that there are fewer flowers in the sprays at the corners. I have knit the original version and I think I like the Ichida version better. Maybe the one I saw was blocked better than mine, but the puckering and bagging issues are significant in the square version.
Judy,
Maybe that’s why they “fixed” it in the Ichida version. I guess we’ll have to wait to hear comments from other knitters.
